Hand rankings in standard poker follow a fixed hierarchy. Listed from strongest to weakest:

• Royal Flush: A, K, Q, J, 10 of the same suit. The absolute top hand, unbeatable by any other combination;
• Straight Flush: Five consecutive cards in the same suit. Ranked by the highest card in the sequence;
• Four of a Kind: Four cards sharing the same rank. Ties are broken by the rank of the four matching cards;
• Full House: Three matching cards combined with a pair. The three-of-a-kind component determines rank in a tie;
• Flush: Any five cards of the same suit, non-consecutive. Ranked card by card from highest to lowest;
• Straight: Five consecutive cards of mixed suits. Ace functions as both high (above King) and low (below 2);
• Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank. Kickers resolve ties;
• Two Pair: Two separate pairs. The higher pair ranks first; the kicker settles equal two-pair hands;
• One Pair: Two cards of matching rank. Remaining three kicker cards determine the winner in a tie;
• High Card: No combination formed. The highest single card in your hand wins.

Texas Hold’em and Omaha share the same hand ranking system but differ significantly in card distribution and hand construction.

In Texas Hold’em, each player receives 2 private hole cards. Your final five-card hand is built using any combination of your 2 hole cards and the 5 community cards on the board. You may use both hole cards, one, or none at all.

In Omaha, each player receives 4 private hole cards. The critical rule: your final hand must use exactly 2 of your 4 hole cards combined with exactly 3 of the 5 community cards. No exceptions apply. This mandatory structure produces more frequent strong hands, which makes Omaha a higher-action format than Hold’em at equivalent stake levels.
